Vent. Rail. Rant. Purge whatever makes you want to throw yourself to the

On Behalf of Jamie Oliver's Mission
Because Jamie Oliver is busy saving people from the food they eat, and I personally am his target audience, I'm posting this rant on his behalf. You can view it yourself on Ted.com.
Bottom line - this generation is killing the next with our food habits. Fast food introduced some 30-40 years ago is really fast death.Jamie claims that our children's lifespans will be shorter than our own because of the food (if you can call it that) they consume. The 'die' in our diets is like a scary foreshadowing. In the name of convenience and a push for profits in the food industry, we've lost our connection to food as a nurturing, life-sustaining foundational part of our lives. Instead we've been wasting our creativity coming up with new fangled ways to substitute chemicals for nutrition.
I've suspected for a long time things weren't right. I'm not what you'd call a foodie. Could take it or leave it. In fact, I hate cooking. It seems like I make one meal, clean up and damm someone's hungry again. I did the math - 3 meals a day times 365 days for say 60 years, is 65,700 meals!!!!! and no end in site. Not to mention my dread of cooking isn't inspiring any budding chefs in my house for me to pass the ladle to.
Aaaarrrgh! I've been doing this all wrong. According to Jamie, food is meant to be the heart of the home and that's meant to be passed on from generation to generation. If I could learn to inspire a healthy food culture, my children would be equipped to take over and I could show up at the table and do what I do best, enjoy connecting with them.
So if Jamie Oliver is on a mission to save us from ourselves, teach us to cook great food, easily and inexpensively, starting with our children, I'm getting in line.

My aunt said she met him and was really impressed by what a nice guy he was. I watched his show the other night in and couldn't believe what a hard time he was having with the people he was trying to help. If he showed up at my children's school I'd be thrilled. These people don't know how lucky they are to have a cafeteria for their kids. I hate making lunches every morning.
