Why does everything kids over 10 want cost sooooo much!!!
I remember my Mom saying "money does not grow on trees" and all the other annoying sentences she would come up with to block my requests for things (I thought I needed) but this is ridiculous!!! If my daughter does not get a pair of $200.00 jeans she will become a social out cast. My son now needs me to give him money so he can take girls on dates (or he to will become a social out cast) and most recently my ten year old requested a bike for his birthday that costs $1100.00!!!! My first car did not cost that much! I think the world has gone nuts!! I have explained to all of them that their requests are just not in my budget but I feel really bad because all of their friends have these things. What is a Mom on a budget to do?

Be honest with your kids. Tell them you are doing your best but you just can not afford everything they want! Maybe point out the differance between what is a neccessity and what is just a want!

I think it is amazing the older the kids get the more everything costs! University nearly wiped me out but I justified the expense by thinking they would get better jobs! Uh, no such luck! The bad economy has made good jobs really tough to find. So now I have a waitress who works nights and sleeps all day and a courrier with a business degree! I have faith that it will all work though!!!!!

Sometimes it's better to leave kids wanting. When you hand everything over to them, they loose some of their drive. You are right that everything becomes more expensive as they get older but it doesn't have to break the bank. Teach your kids about smart alternatives and ask them what having the latest jeans or ipod or whatever is really about. Do they really need it or are they using stuff as social currency to fit in? If you can help them see the difference now, you can save them a lot of money for the rest of their life!

I can not answer the question but I do not know why it is a surprise to anyone my kids have been expensive since before they were born!!!

A better question would be why does everything I want have to be so expensive and why does everything I want have to come last!!!!
