What do you want to be when your children grow up?

Here we are in what Pix and I affectionately like to refer to as the 'Real New Year' - a time of new beginnings. As kids and adults head back to school or return to work after summer holidays, there is a feeling of a fresh start. It's a time of year when I'm struck by how much our children have grown and reminded how quickly time flies by. I'm sure it was only yesterday they were in diapers, pre-school, elementary school, high-school....  It's the time of year when it's really clear to me that this motherhood gig isn't going to last forever, at least not the active-duty part, and I'm struck with each passing year that I haven't figured out yet what I want to be when my children grow up!

I'd stopped thinking about my answers to the "What do I want to be when I grow up?" question when I started asking my children what they wanted to be.

Then faster than I ever imagined, my kids aren't kids for much longer and I'm finding myself wondering alot about what I want to do when the day comes when I'm out of a job (as a mom, that is) and I'm really curious if any of you are asking yourselves the same question,

What do you want to be when your children grow up?

and what did you do?

I have decided to stop thinking about the idea of what I want to be and just be!!! Most of the people I know that had plans carved in stone didn't end up doing them, they basically planned themselves right out of the job!! I just want to be open and flexible enough to enjoy what ever comes my way. With a little luck I will have done such a super job as a Mom that I will be able to retire or semi retire or at least occassionally take a day off, o.k. maybe just a coffee break!
