Every Mom Could Use a Personal Assistant

I haven't met a mom yet that couldn't use some extra help. Even the big O herself has made the claim that every mom needs a wife, which considering Oprah is neither a mom nor a wife, speaks to the need. The problem is, all the good ones are taken! Actually the people most qualified for such a job are themselves the ones who need the help. My friends and I have often joked about how great it would be to have a secretary or a personal assistant. We've joked because the reality of that ever happening is about as likely as us growing wings and flying. Until today.

Like every mom on the planet, every day is filled with a multitude of little details and I for one find it a trying challenge to keep abreast of them all. In our home, my husband is a principal and our four children attend three different schools (don't ask!)  which means we're constantly juggling four, often conflicting time-tables, not to mention extra-curricular schedules, meetings and constant appointments. So little things like car insurance can often slip through the cracks. Until today.

Last year when we bought out the lease on one of our vehicles we had our insurance completed by an agent at the dealership. She mentioned at the time how she could come to us the following year for our renewal. I confess I thought very little about it but I must have agreed. Whether I did or didn't, this woman was true to her word. She called this week to remind me my insurance was due today. I looked at my schedule and couldn't see where I'd fit that in. But here's where the clouds broke and the harps started playing. She said she was fifteen minutes away and after a quick confirmation of my existing plan, she arrived with the papers ready for me to sign and my decal ready to put on my car! She stayed less than 10 minutes and the service didn't cost a thing. When I closed my front door I stood momentarily taken by the realization that this must be what it would feel like to either be royalty or at the very least, have a personal assistant. It was, dare I say it, a life-changing moment!

Now I wonder what other services are out there. What other businesses have created an offering that takes away the hassle for their customers? What clever business person understands they could rule the world with just a few of these time and stress saving ideas?

I'm not beyond begging. In fact, I'm pleading with all of you moms. If you know of other services like this, please share them here. And if you are a mom and a clever business woman, heads up, there is a killing to be made if you come up with more 'personal assistant' solutions to some of the every day details on our plates.

In the meantime, I'm going to relive over and over in my mind that amazing feeling of having had the joy of someone else taking one of the tasks off my hands, no strings attached and,(gasp!) promising to do it again in a year!  Seriously, I could have just hugged her from the gratitude had I not been busy lifting my jaw back into position!

I could always use a personal assistant. With all the soccer games and girl scout meetings and everything else that my kids have signed up for. I am only one person, I feel like I'm pulled in about a hundred different ways. I could really use a driver.
