why do we need green monkeys?
The other day in the paper there were these cute photographs of these sweet looking little green monkeys! Through science we have been able to make these little monkeys a rather bizarre shade of green and the little monkeys also glow in the dark? WHY is this helpful to us or the little monkeys? I read the whole article and I still don't understand why it is helpful to have glow in the dark monkeys. Does anyone know? Can anyone explain this major scientific break through to me (please). On the up side I am sure the little monkeys are highly employable now in freaky circus's! AGAIN WHY?

Hey Pix
I just came across an article that explains a little more about the glowing primates. The main 'benefit' of being able to make a monkey glow in the dark is the researchers ability to 'illuminate tumor cells, trace toxins and to monitor genes as they turn on and off' since the florescent green protein they've introduced into these monkeys glows under ultraviolet light. The hope these scientists hold is that they will be able to use these animals to experiment on providing a 'better' way to watch the progression and response to treatments of such diseases as Parkinson's, and ALS.
Again, I wonder, just because we can, does it mean we should?

I wonder if the monkeys would feel proud of their contribution to human society? Now that they have perfected the green monkey test will the humans that they run this test on have to turn green to? It would really tick me off if I had to have this test, turned permanently green and didn't have what ever it was! I have enough trouble meeting people as it is!!!!
