Octo Mom

There has been so much fuss surrounding Nadya Suleman, also referred to as Octo-Mom, that after the initial shock that undergoing invitro fertilization means the possibility of not just a baby but a whole litter!, what really astonishes me is that women still don't show up for other women. Wasn't taking down Sarah Palin and dissecting Hilary Clinton enough to be ashamed of? Now our attention has been turned to slinging shots at Nadya Suleman. Women have complained bitterly for years at the inequality of men and women. We've fought for our rights in a male-dominated society, bashed against the doors on the Old Boys Club, strived for respect in the boadrooms, and in our railing against 'those guys' did it not occur to anyone that 'those guys' were us too? How many of us ever step back far enough to see just how badly we treat other women? We can't even get consensus amongst our our kind and we wonder why we struggle through our days feeling isolated, overwhelmed and unsupported. What makes us so quick to claw at another woman? Is it for fear that she might be seen as the representative for all women? Is it that her circumstances or choices add to the confusion of who we are individually and collectively? I'd love to hear what you think, from your gut reactions, to your genuine thoughts that rise to the surface once your emotions have settled. Personally I believe our solutions and maybe our salvation are simpler than we realize. What if we showed up for the women around us? What if we supported them the way we would like to be supported, without judgment or fear of attack? What if it truly didn't have to be so hard? What if we came together instead of played into the divide and conquer mentality that we've been subjected to and in many ways supported? What if we reached out to another woman, not to claw her, but to lend a hand, offer a kind word and let her know we have her back? Be honest, would you miss the drama? Or, would you you find yourself, maybe for the first time in your life, able to truly exhale? I really wonder what that would be like.

So much of the media circles around issues that pit moms against other moms based on their choices or circumstances. It would be so much better if we came together and supported each other, united - a sisterhood of mothers! So much of the media circles around issues that pit moms against other moms based on their choices or circumstances. I don't really think the issue is this misguided woman! The real issue is the Doctors who allowed and nurtured this situation. I think if anyone should be held accountable it should be the Doctors for using a woman as a guinea pig! It is wrong how the press have held Nadya up as an irresponsible Mother and not said "who the hell is the Doctor that did this"? To the best of my knowledge this is a procedure that requires some form of background information. You do not just walk in off the street and say Hi I would like to have a litter of children! Why Oh why was this women allowed to risk her life, her unborn children's lives and risk leaving the children she already had as orphans? Maybe everyone should just stop looking at Nadya (it is fairly apparent her motivation was to be a famous) and take a long hard look at a medical system that would allow such an obvious risk to occur.

I truly believe, Every Child Deserves a Mom that is Supported!

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with Nadya's choices, she is a fellow mom. She has children who need her . She will need all the support and help she can get in order to give them all the love, support and care they need. I've never understood the dynamic that pits moms against moms. We're all in this together, sharing a very universal experience and it is just so much harder when we call each other crazy when in fact the world in which we live is crazy. I tend to agree with Pix on this one. Let's shift our focus from Nadya and take a closer look at the dynamics at play and the direction this type of application of science and technology is taking us, since one thing is very clear, she couldn't have done this alone.

I believe that the only people that need protection and support are Nadya's 6 previous children and her new litter of children.  The only reason she is garnering any debate is because she is an attractive women.  Does anyone think she would have any backers on her side if she was an overweight, hirtuistic, plane looking women?  She and the negligent physician are narsistic, self driven nut cases that are only interested in themselves and not the welfare of others.  A psychiatric consult should be in order for them both - perhaps a stripping of his liscence as it is clear he lacks medical judgement, and a safe home far removed from such an emotionally and mentally deranged mother!

I  can not believe anyone is still talking or caring about this twit! People she did it for the money! there is nothing interesting or of value about this story. Nadia is just a very greedy gal who went about her quest for dollars in a bizarre selfish way! Lets find someone who actually needs our interest.
